-Could a pair of GE90 powerplants possibly power a Boeing 747-400 or maybe the bigger A380? I am just curious how powerful the GE90 can be.GE90 is used for the B777 while the A330 is powered by GE80E1 the same engine that powers the B747-400. As for the A380 am not sure about about its engines. As you know the 90 means 90,000ibs of thrust/per engine.
Yes. A GE90 was able to keep a 747 airborne by itself. Two GE90 should be able power the Airbus A380.
It could not be made - for a lot of technical technical reasons as well -
The amount of "power" is not the only concern -
In terms of power and thrust then yes, Physically a 747 wouldn't have the ground clearance to fit a GE90 onto the wing.
