For between $5000-$10000, you can buy a Flybaby that uses the same basic type of engine as the brand-new $100,000+ Cessna Skycatcher.



It's a proven design unlike the Cessna product that gets service bulletin after service bulletin as people discover deficiencies in the design. The Flybaby is also made by the pilot who flew it instead of made in China.
You can buy a Kitfox, an experimental plane sold as a build kit. If it's not the cheapest it's close to it and looks like a "normal" plane.
5000 feet up and the engine blows up or the controls seize. Nasty. How much is your life worth? When buying a plane most people might feel that cheapest may just not be something high on the list of priorities!
